How to paint the walls with our products.

Painting walls

Preliminary work

Wash wallpaper and previously painted surfaces with a sponge and paint cleaner. Peeled wallpaper cannot be painted and must be removed. Apply the unevenness with a suitable wall putty, such as a Medium Filler LH. Gypsum board joints must first be reinforced with paper or fiber strips. Sand with dried putty. Wipe surfaces free of sanding dust. If the walls are damaged by nicotine, soot or moisture, they must first be insulated. The easiest and safest way is to use a barrier paint, such as Blocka Spärrfärg, which is applied as a thin layer to the sheet and allowed to dry thoroughly. A strong wall covering can be easily glued to the wall with fiberglass cloth or felt and then repainted.

Painting

The surfaces are painted 2 times with a suitable paint, while allowing the surface to dry. Use a paint roller and remember that the thickness of the roller determines how strong the structure (grains) of the paint remains. The corners are painted with a brush and then gently pressed onto the surface with the brush to mimic the texture of the roll. Keep in mind that strong and clear colours have poorer coverage and may require multiple coats to achieve full coverage.

In a typical home, wall paint Vagans 7 or Vagans Pro + 7 is used, and for kitchens, corridors and public spaces, wall paint Vagans Pro 20 is suitable. For simpler surfaces, basements, adjoining rooms, industrial premises, etc., it is recommended to use wall paint Multimatt or ceiling paint Eminent. If you want a particularly elegant and matte result, wall paint Älva or Vagans Pro + 4 are great choices. They can also be cleaned with a damp cloth.

As the paint is fine-grained, the paint must be re-smoothed after uniform application to achieve an even and covering surface. This means that the roll is pulled in the same direction in the wet colour with the same pressure and speed. This way all the grains are in the same direction and there is no patchy uneven appearance when light casts different shadows on the surface.

Maintenance

Surfaces with a gloss level of 7 or higher are cleaned with a cloth dampened with a mild detergent. Wipe the surface with a cloth dampened with water. In the case of solid matte paints, such as marine paints, care must be taken when rubbing the surface, as rubbing can cause an ugly change in gloss. In this case, it is easier to cover the surface with a new paint. Otherwise, use a mild detergent that is wiped off with a damp cloth. Black metal marks are removed with an eraser. Latex paints should never be cleaned with alcohol.
